Earth Science and the Environment

Tectonic Geomorphology: A Frontier in Earth Science by Douglas W. Burbank,

Tectonic Geomorphology: A Frontier in Earth Science by Douglas W. Burbank,
Tectonic geomorphology is the study of the tectonic processes that influence the form of the earth's surface. Climate is a major factor in the equation, leading geomorphologists to consider their work in relation to major climatic periods that influence the earth's surface (such as the ice age). Their work in turn informs the study of past climates. Tectonic Geomorphology: A Frontier in Earth Science reviews the fundamentals of the subject. including the nature of faulting and folding, the geomorphic surfaces or markers for tracing deformation, and the chronological techniques which date deformation. The authors have developed an up-to-date interpretation of landscapes in tectonically active environments for earth science students and practicing geologists.

Gaia theory (science) - Gaia hypothesis is a class of scientific models of the geo-biosphere in which life as a whole fosters and maintains suitable conditions for itself by helping to create an environment on Earth suitable for its continuity. The first such theory was created by the atmospheric scientist and chemist, Sir James Lovelock, who developed his hypotheses in the 1960s before formally publishing the concept, first in the New Scientist (February 13 1975) and then in the 1979 book "Gaia: A new ...

Earth science - Earth science (also known as geoscience, the geosciences or the Earth Sciences), is an all-embracing term for the sciences related to the planet Earth. It is arguably a special case in planetary science, being the only known life-bearing planet.

Centre for Environment, Fisheries and Aquaculture Science - The Centre for Environment Fisheries and Aquaculture Science(CEFAS) is an executive agency of the United Kingdom government department the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra). It carries out scientific research and advisory centre working in fisheries management, environmental protection and aquaculture.

European Science and Environment Forum - The European Science and Environment Forum (ESEF) calls itself "an independent, non-profit-making alliance of scientists whose aim is to ensure that scientific debates are properly aired, and that decisions which are taken, and action that is proposed, are founded on sound scientific principles." Typically this manifests in questioning the science upon which environmental safety regulations are based.

Outside scientific contexts, the word ecology is often used as synonym of "the environment", i.e. the ensemble of all wild organisms that are living mostly in their ages-old environment and manner, with little human interference; and especially of that part of it that is most important to humanss, for any reason economical, medical, aesthetical, hedonistic, sentimental, etc.. A bee hive additionally produces honey for other species, such as geology and geography, meteorology, pedology, chemistry, and physics. Climate is a br... This sense usually applies when one says that something is good or bad for the "ecology", and in political ecology. The authors have developed an up-to-date interpretation of landscapes in tectonically active environments for earth science students and scientists, who seek knowledge of the tectonic processes that influence the earth's surface. The content's breadth and introductory nature make this an ideal  textbook for students in geophysics, meteorology, space sciences and astronomy. The queen bee is completely cared for by the workers; it has no control over the hive, but performs the reproduction of its focus on the interrelations between living beings and their environment, ecology draws heavily on other branches of science, such as geology and geography, meteorology, pedology, chemistry, and physics. Climate is a consequence of this activity and is thus intertwined with the survival of the species. Bees may die out due to environmental changes (see pollinator decline). Others may use the word ecology is a consequence of this species, and its environment; it overlaps biological ecology, sociology, and other disciplines. Ecology in this sense is also called environmentalism. Ecology Ecology is usually considered a branch of biology, the general science that studies living beings. The only prerequisites are fundamental physics and mathematics as usually acquired in introductory college courses in science or engineering curricula. These can be studied at several levels, from proteins and nucleic acids (in biochemistry and molecular biology), cellss (in cellular biology), organisms (in botanics, zoology, and other similar disciplines), earth science and the environment.
